How to get to Limon Port?

This port is located on the east coast of the country. It is easily accessible, which is what made it such an important and prominent port for Costa Rica. Of course, this means that it is possible to arrive by boat. However, it is more common and likely to take the highway to Guápiles from San José. Limon Port is about 160 kilometers east of San José and 55 kilometers north of Puerto Viejo de Talamanca.

The trip from San José takes approximately two and a half hours, and the trip is well worth it for its scenic beauty. In addition to the sights you will see once you arrive, the trip will also take you to many beautiful places, such as the Brava Volcano and the Braulio Carrillo National Park, among others.

Whether you stop at these places and appreciate them more closely or just enjoy them as you pass them by, it’s up to you to make that decision. Also, Tortuguero National Park and Cahuita National Park are close to Limon Port, so you can use this port as a convenient stop to visit these places of great popular interest. In addition, the Playa Bonita beach is also nearby. This is a coast famous for its exceptional surfing opportunities.

Local Culture

The city of Puerto Limón is not known for being a city with a lot of tourist affluence. Many visitors to Costa Rica consider this to be a good thing, especially if they are trying to see what life in Costa Rica really is like. However, one of the most important aspects of this port is how different it is from other cities in the rest of the country. Today, it maintains a strong Afro-Caribbean culture.

Most residents of Puerto Limón are also of Caribbean descent. In this city, most people speak Spanish, English and Patuá. While visiting the area, visit the Vargas Park, located on the east side of the city. It has a beautiful view of the Atlantic Ocean.

Limon Port is also known for its unique and fascinating architecture. The city was hit by many earthquakes over the years, which has given the building a slightly run down look, although many say this has only increased the city’s legacy.
